Observatorio, on the west side of the city, is the terminus of the Mexico City–Toluca Interurban Train, known as El Insurgente. Since February 2, 2026, the full line has run all the way here, and the same area holds the end of Metro Line 1 and the Western Bus Terminal (Terminal de Autobuses del Poniente). It’s about 5.3 km from Hotel Emma Boutique, and the best part: you get there by Metro from Sevilla without a single transfer.

What El Insurgente is and where it goes
- It’s a passenger train running about 58 km between Observatorio, in Mexico City, and Zinacantepec, west of Toluca.
- It has seven stations: Observatorio, Vasco de Quiroga, Santa Fe, Lerma, Metepec, Toluca Centro and Zinacantepec.
- It’s handy for the Santa Fe business district, downtown Toluca or Metepec without relying on the highway.
- It doesn’t reach Toluca airport: to fly from there, get off at a Toluca-side station such as Metepec and continue by taxi.
- Next to the station is the Western Bus Terminal, with departures to the west of the country.
Getting there from Hotel Emma Boutique
Walk 200 m to Sevilla Metro and take Line 1 toward Observatorio. You pass Chapultepec, Juanacatlán and Tacubaya and get off at Observatorio, the end of the line: four stops, about 10 minutes. The Metro station was rebuilt and reopened in November 2025; once out, follow the signs to the interurban train.
By taxi or ride-hailing app the trip takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic, useful with big suitcases or for very early weekend departures, when the Metro opens later.
How to pay
The train takes the Integrated Mobility Card (Tarjeta de Movilidad Integrada), the same one used on the Metro, as well as QR-code tickets. Fares depend on how many stations you ride: you tap in and tap out again, so don’t skip the exit turnstile and keep enough balance for the whole trip.
Tips
- Avoid Line 1 at rush hour if you have luggage; mid-morning it’s much roomier.
- For a day in Toluca, leave early: downtown and Metepec are easy to explore on foot, and the last train back leaves close to midnight.
- Toluca sits higher and is usually colder than Roma Norte; bring a jacket.
- If you’re heading to the Western Bus Terminal, allow extra time to find your gate and check your bags.
