Museum of Modern Art in Chapultepec: Hours, What to See and How to Get There

The Museo de Arte Moderno, or MAM, opened in 1964 in Chapultepec Park, on Paseo de la Reforma. It holds Mexican and Latin American art from the 20th and 21st centuries, including Frida Kahlo’s The Two Fridas. Its two round buildings, designed by a team led by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, also the architect of the National Museum of Anthropology, are linked by a sculpture garden. It’s a manageable size, ideal for a morning visit. It’s 1.4 km from Hotel Emma Boutique.

Getting there from Hotel Emma Boutique

  • On foot (about 17 minutes): walk west to Paseo de la Reforma and follow it toward Chapultepec to the corner of Calzada Gandhi, where the entrance is.

Tips for your visit

  • Don’t go on a Monday: the museum is closed, and so is the park’s First Section.
  • Sundays are free and busier; on weekdays you can take the galleries at your own pace.
  • Pair it with the Tamayo Museum across Reforma, or with Chapultepec Castle.
